Katie was born and raised in southern California, where she later attended undergraduate university at California State University San Marcos. She then attended medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia. She was drawn to Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery for the reconstructive patient-surgeon relationship and the opportunity to solve problems creatively. Her research is in breast and general reconstruction.
