
Adam Brinkman, MD, was recently named the Chair of the Division of Pediatric Surgery, effective March 10, 2025.
Dr. Brinkman did his General Surgery residency at the UW-Madison Department of Surgery from 2008-2015. He completed the T32 post-doctoral nutritional sciences fellowship during residency prior to moving to Vanderbilt University in 2015 for his Pediatric Surgery fellowship. In 2017, Dr. Brinkman returned to Wisconsin Surgery as a faculty member.
“I am both humbled and excited to step into the role of Division Chair for Pediatric Surgery,” Dr. Brinkman said. “It is an incredible honor to lead a team of dedicated professionals who are committed to providing exceptional care to our youngest patients.”
Dr. Brinkman has held multiple clinical leadership roles, including as the Medical Director of the Intestinal Failure/Short Bowel Syndrome Program, the Pediatric Nutrition Support Team, Pediatric Surgical Critical Care, and the Pediatric Trauma program for American Family Children’s Hospital.
He is also known as a consummate educator and has served as the Associate Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Brinkman has won multiple teaching awards over the last several years, and is viewed as an outstanding mentor for Wisconsin Surgery trainees.
