Brigitte Smith, MD, MHPE

Dr. Brigitte Smith, Associate Professor in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Vice Chair of Education, has been selected as the recipient of the Distinguished Mid-Career Educator Award by the Association of Surgical Education (ASE).

The ASE Education Awards have been established by the Association for Surgical Education to recognize the dedication of surgical educators. These awards are meant to highlight and encourage outstanding teachers and surgical educators. The Distinguished Mid-Career Educator Award is given to educators who completed their training at least six years and no more than 20 years ago and have demonstrated teaching excellence at the national and/or international level.

“The caliber of educators in the ASE is truly remarkable; I am quite humbled and honored to be recognized,” Dr. Smith said. “I will do everything I can to continue to bring my educational expertise and enthusiasm home to UW so this is not merely a national recognition, but one that translates to outstanding surgical education at home.”

Dr. Smith will be honored at the annual ASE Awards Banquet on Friday, May 9 in Seattle, Wash.

The Association for Surgical Education is a leading organization in surgical education. The mission of the organization is to innovate, lead, and enhance the careers of surgical educators and surgical learners.
