John Recetenwald, MD, MS, has been named the Chair of the Division of Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Rectenwald has been a Vascular Surgery professor at UW-Madison since 2018.
Prior to coming to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Rectenwald served as the Division Chief of Vascular Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern. He is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia and completed his general surgery training at the University of Florida. He completed his vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan where he remained as faculty for 10 years before moving to UT Southwestern.
Dr. Rectenwald held or currently holds leadership positions in the Society of Vascular Surgery, the Midwest Vascular Society, and the Vascular & Endovascular Surgery Society.
Dr. Rectenwald holds the Susan Behrens MD (Class of 1975) Surgery Education Chair and is the Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Surgery. He has been recognized with national and local teaching awards, including the Philip J. Wolfson Outstanding Teacher Award from the Association for Surgical Education in 2019.
