We are excited to announce new faculty members that will be joining the Department of Surgery in the coming months. Get to know our new surgeons and all they will bring to our team.

Three Meriter surgeons join our faculty

In support of our expanding partnership between UW Health and UnityPoint Health-Meriter, three surgeons who practice with UnityPoint Health-Meriter will be joining our Department as new faculty on July 1, 2018. Collectively, they bring a wealth of expertise and experience serving the Madison community to our growing clinical programs.

Kenneth Foster, MD, MBA – Clinical Assistant Professor in General Surgery

Dr. Kenneth Foster received his medical degree from Rush Medical College, and completed his residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a board-certified general surgeon with experience in minimally invasive surgical techniques and in a wide range of general surgery procedures.

Jeffery Larson, MD – Clinical Assistant Professor in Plastic Surgery

Dr. Jeffery Larson received his medical degree from Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his plastic surgery residency with our Department. He also completed fellowships in Reconstructive Microsurgery and Aesthetic Surgery. He performs the full spectrum of plastic surgery and has additional training in reconstructive microsurgery and aesthetic surgery.

Victor Weiss, MD – Clinical Associate Professor in Vascular Surgery

Dr. Victor Weiss received his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed his residency at Emory University Hospital. He is a board-certified vascular surgeon with special interests in carotid artery disease, open and endovascular treatment of aneurysmal disease, circulation problems of the legs and arms, and dialysis access procedures.

Fall brings new faculty from across the country

In addition to our new faculty from UnityPoint Health-Meriter, we are looking forward to welcoming new faculty from across the country to Madison, beginning this September.

Lacey Stelle, MD – Clinical Assistant Professor in Surgical Oncology/Breast Surgery (August 2018)

Dr. Lacey Stelle will be joining the Division of General Surgery this August. Dr. Stelle received her medical degree from Southern Illinois University and trained in Breast Surgical Oncology at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Dr. Stelle will be a member of the UW Health Breast Center team, with primary practice responsibilities at SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford, IL. She will provide a full spectrum of breast surgery care for patients across the Rockford and northern Illinois community.

Laura Bozzuto, MD, MS – Clinical Assistant Professor in Surgical Oncology/Breast Surgery (September 1, 2018)

Dr. Laura Bozzuto will be joining both the Division of General Surgery and the University of Wisconsin Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology this September with a joint appointment. Dr. Bozzuto received her medical degree from Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania, and rained in the Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Georgetown University. Dr. Bozzuto’s unique clinical expertise will allow her to provide comprehensive care focused on women’s health.

Ray King, MD, PhD – Assistant Professor in Colorectal Surgery (September 1, 2018)

Dr. Ray King will be joining the Division of General Surgery this September. Dr. King received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and completed his residency in General Surgery at Medical College of Georgia and fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at University of Minnesota. Dr. King also received his PhD in anatomy and neurobiology from Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. King will be based primarily at the UW Health 1 South Park Street General Surgery Clinic and at UnityPoint Health-Meriter Hospital, and will also provide care at the UW Health Digestive Health Center.

Ian Koszewski, MD – Assistant Professor in Otolaryngology (September 1, 2018)

Dr. Ian Koszewski will be joining the Division of Otolaryngology this September. Dr. Koszewski received his medical degree from Medical College of Wisconsin, completed his residency in our Otolaryngology Residency at UW, and trained in the Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University. One of Dr. Koszewski’s clinical focuses will be the continued development of a skull base surgery program partnership with the University of Wisconsin Department of Neurosurgery.

Amy Fiedler, MD – Assistant Professor in Cardiothoracic Surgery (February 1, 2019)

Dr. Amy Fiedler will be joining the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery February 1, 2019. Dr. Fiedler is a graduate of The George Washington University School of Medicine and completed her General Surgery Residency as well as Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Her research endeavors have include the creation of a surgical, non-transplant option for the treatment of heart failure and the development of a novel model of right heart failure in sheep. She will be joining the cardiac surgery team, where her practice will include broad-based cardiac surgery, VAD/heart transplant, and ECMO.
